Like my 94 year old Paw-Paw said when President Obama was elected into office, “I’ve seen it all now.”  That’s how all of us probably felt when the unthinkable happened in 2009, we actually got a mufuckin’ Black President?!! If that ain’t motivation for us to get up and do sumthin’ I don’t know what is fam.’ I’ll never forget where I was on Inauguration day: Layin’ across my Mama’s sofa, rollin’ a blunt, askin’ my lil’ cousin “Do you believe this shit?!!” and “Damn Michelle got a big ass!” LOL. I’m just fuckin’ wit’ y’all! Nah but seriously, I was at my house chillin’ with my girl and my nephews to witness what it looks like when we don’t believe in the bullshit system and when we reject phrases like “I can’t.” Real talk.

2009: The Year We Lost The Greatest Entertainer On EARTH: R.I.P. MICHAEL JACKSON: A Tribute To The King Of Music

We were all devastated to hear about Michael Jackson suddenly passing. It was one of the most surreal moments I’ve ever experienced. I kind of felt like MJ woulda been around for all my life because he was the greatest entertainer on EARTH. The amount of greatness this kid from Gary, IN was able to accomplish is something that I cannot even put into words…it’s almost God-like what he’s done in his 50 years. Seems like a lotta times the greats go way before their job is done, but as we know that’s a decision that only our higher power can decide for us.

This is one of those moments that all of us will always remember where we were and what we were doing when we found out about MJ movin’ on…much like I’ll always remember where I was when I found out ‘Pac and Biggie got killed, where I was on 9/11/01 and where I was when President Obama won the election. Monumental moments like these are what makes life, life. They give us our extreme ups and our extreme downs. We can’t explain why we just have to continue to add them to our journey, keep pushin’ forward, and make the most out of our lives every single day.

Always strive to obtain success no matter how big or small the goal is, always strive to win even if you lose sometimes, and always continue to dust yourself off and keep fighting for what you want out of life. As you can see, no one is excluded from taking that ultimate step into our next journey after this one. Rest in peace Michael, we love you, me miss you, and you will forever be an inspiration to all of us.
