The Cool Kids is making me believe in hip hop again the same way I believed in it back in the day when it was diverse. I ain’t saying The Cool Kids is the next bext thing next to sliced Wonder Bread or no shit like that but what I am saying is that I’m glad to see that a record label decided to take a chance on them and step outside of that Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Jay-Z cookie cutter box. Don’t get it twisted I’m a fan of all three of them dudes all day, everyday but I don’t want to see 10-20 duplicates of each of them every time I turn on the TV or the radio, I only wanna see them be them. The Cool Kids remind me of the days of De La Soul, The Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff (say what you wanna about Will Smith, but the nigga was a true MC back in the day), The Beastie Boys, etc. Their tracks is ill and their content is representin’ who they truly are, they are not tryin’ to act all hard n’ shit and I respect that. It’s time for Hip Hop to wake the fuck up and open it’s doors to all types of artistry. A message to the record labels: Won’t y’all expose the artists y’all got sitting on your shelves and let the people decide who we wanna hear and support.
